Season of Renewal
The title of this post is the name of the last chapter in “The Diving Bell And The Butterfly” where Jean – Dominique recalls the last few days of summer and a new season will soon begin. Like Jean-Dominique, a new season begins for all of us, it’s a New Year, a new opportunity to not let life pass us by.
I finished the book tonight and overall while the story was humorous at times, I found it to be boring and confusing. I found that I had to go back to see if I missed something or that I am just missing something all together.
One thing I did think about as I read the last few chapters in the book was his recollection of his life prior to the stroke, that seemed like a central theme through out the book, however it resonated with me in the last few chapters. We often remember moments just before a traumatic moment in our lives, for example so many of us remember exactly what we were doing when the planes hit the World Trade Center in New York City that Tuesday morning in Sept. 2001.
Older generations remember when Kennedy was shot, you get the point. You remember simpler times, times we often take for granted because we may not be happy with our lives or we’re too busy to stop and realize all that we really have.
I have to say this, I thought the book had a fascinating plot, I would recommend this book to other readers who are looking for a quick read filled with both humor and sadness and an appreciation for life.
