A Family of Women
Hello Dear Followers,
I know it has been a while since my last post, I haven’t had a chance to sit down and write and since I have finished “The Secret Life of Bees” I thought I would write something brief about it.
I have to say again, this book did nothing for me. While I thought it was a decent book, I didn’t feel it tug at the heart strings. I found the part about May terribly sad but that was the only part I can honestly say did anything for me. Simply because she had a valuable message to her sisters and that was simply to live life, take chances and don’t mess things up.
It also made me think how we all are in some way like May, we often carry heavy burdens on our shoulders and while we may not always start humming “Oh Susanna” and crying, we find out our own way of dealing with what life throws at us.
I do have to say I learned more about bees than I will probably ever know from reading this book, and about honey.
The ending was predictable, I won’t give it away, but needless to say it was predictable. But this book does teach you the value of family, even ones who aren’t blood related will be there for you when you need them.
The movie I thought wasn’t all that good, but the casting was perfect. I thought that they went too fast through the book. Queen Latifah was the perfect August. It was funny before I knew who the characters would be in the movie, I only pictured Queen Latifah as I was reading. Good casting. I did think however Roseleen would have been older.
